Good question! For starters, the annual cost of a full-time senior-level colorist now exceeds €60,000, plus benefits (and good luck finding one available). High-end colorgrading requires a color critical viewing studio, dedicated hardware and regular calibration of the monitors.

Aside from that, you may not always have enough work to keep them busy at all times, so you're stuck paying for time you aren't able to utilize.

With V99, you can pause and resume your subscription as often as you need to ensure you're only paying your colorist when you have work available for them.

Once subscribed, you're able to add as many grading requests to your queue as you'd like, and they will be delivered one by one.

On average, most requests are completed in just three days or less. However, long form projects or more complex requests can take longer.

We understand you may not have enough grading work to fill up the entire month. Perhaps you only have one or two requests at the moment. That's where pausing your subscription comes in handy.

Billing cycles are based on a 21 day period. Let's say you sign up and use the service for 10 days, and then decide to pause your subscription. This means that the billing cycle will be paused and you'll have 11 days of service remaining to be used anytime in the coming year.

Pausing and resuming is effortless and requires just one click in the V99 dashboard.

Larger requests are broken down on V99’s end. This applies to feature length films or documentaries. You should expect to receive a reasonable amount of work every 24-48 hours until the entire film is done.

Most requests are colorgraded in Davinci Resolve, using calibrated SDR Eizo or Flanders HDR reference monitors. The room is equipped with calibrated and controlled bias lighting surrounding the reference monitor.

V99 offers a ton of flexibility in how you request work using Frame io. Some common ways clients request designs is directly via Frame io, sharing references from other films or even recording a brief video (for those who prefer not to write their briefs out). Basically, if it can be linked to or shared in Frame io, it's fair game.
